M&D Mechanical Contractors Earns Elite OSHA SHARP Certification
M&D Mechanical Contractors, Inc. has joined the elite ranks of the construction industry in safety by achieving the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Safety & Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP). According to OSHA’s website, “the program recognizes small business employers who have used OSHA’s on-site consulting program services and operate an exemplary injury and illness prevention program.”
Candidates for SHARP certification must undergo a rigorous comprehensive consultation from OSHA and maintain a company culture of exemplary injury and illness prevention programs. This prominent certification, held currently by only four companies in Alabama, is open only to small businesses with 250 or fewer onsite employees.
“We continually strive to be better,” said M&D Safety Director Eddie Evans. “That’s the primary goal of any safety program. With that goal in mind, the SHARP process was a natural fit. It was a way in which we could continue to improve our safety culture. This was a very thorough process and it forced us to make a few changes; however, we are much stronger now and are already looking for the next challenge,” said Evans.
“It is easy to become complacent in the workplace when you have a strong safety program. The SHARP process helped us identify potential hazards and opportunities for improvement we might otherwise have overlooked,” said Alan Schollian, President of M&D Mechanical Contractors, Inc.
M&D celebrated this achievement during an award ceremony in April at our office in Decatur. Below are photos from the ceremony.
