2015 SWeETy Camp
Several young ladies participating in the 2015 SWeETY (Summer Welding and Electrical Technology) Camps took a tour of M&D Mechanical Contractor's shops as part of their experience. M&D Mechanical employees demonstrated several different techniques and equipment in the shop.
We always enjoy having these girls visit and encouraging more young women to consider a career in construction. We have been a proud sponsor of SWeETy Camp for several years.
2015 Safety ClassSeveral M&D Mechanical Contractor employees recently participated in a fall protection training and demonstration event that included hands-on training involving a Personal Fall Arrest System. View the certificate from the event and learn more about this OSHA training course.
2015 Apprentice GradsCongratulations to our 2015 apprentice grads Billy Casey and Cody Brooks. Billy completed his sheetmetal apprenticeship and Cody Brooks completed his apprenticeship as a pipefitter. We're proud of these guys and the committment they made to the program.
2015 Dragon Boat RacesM&D employees, family and friends participated in the 2015 Dragon Boat Races benefitting the Decatur Morgan Hospital Foundation. The Contracting Dragons team won the first heat and just barely got beat on the second heat by 3/10 of a second. We finished fourth in our division and 14th out of 76 teams overall. Not bad at all! PLUS, Alan says we won the tailgate hands down and anyone there will certainly agree! See other pictures from the event here.
M&D's Brian Matlock Teaches a New Generation of Pipefitters
M&D Mechanical's Brian Matlock is currently serving as the pipefitter instructor for the apprentice program offered through the North Alabama Craft Training Foundation. Several employees are currently enrolled in the pipefitting and other apprentice programs. In the photo below, this year's pipefitting apprentices learn the art of beveling pipe with a torch.
M&D Helps Make It a Big Deal for Habitat for Humanity
M&D Mechanical Contractors was a supporter at the recent Big Deal Casino-Style Night supporting Habitat for Humanity of Morgan County. As part of the company's celebration of Women in Construction week, tickets were given to all of the women at M&D Mechanical.
Dean and Terry Earn Top Apprentice Honors
Congratulations to Danny Dean (Sheet Metal) and Nathan Terry (Pipefitting) for being named Top Apprentices at the 2014 ABC of North Alabama Awards Banquet.
2014 Christmas Party
It was wonderful to see most of our employees at the annual M&D Mechanical Christmas Party. We celebrated safety milestones for the year and gave out some well-deserved gifts.
M&D's David Coon Completes NYC Marathon
M&D Mechanical congratulates employee David Coon for participating in the 2014 NYC Marathon. Coon had to wait several years before he was accepted into the marathon and this was his first year to run it.
M&D Mechanical Raises $928 for Breast Cancer Awareness
M&D Mechanical hosted a Pink Thursday event in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Employees and family members attended a luncheon with special guest Mr. Larry Payne, Director of the Decatur Morgan Hospital Foundation. Through generous donations by M&D Mechanical employees and a matching contribution from the company, M&D Mechanical presented the Decatur Morgan Hospital Foundation with a check for $928.
During the day, the company also hosted a Kids Coloring Challenge and employee drawing.

M&D Participates in Annual MCEDA Golf Tournament
M&D Mechanical Contractors employees Johnny Shelton and John Barnard recently represented the company in the 2014 MCEDA Golf Tournament. Hosted by the Morgan County Economic Development Association (MCEDA), this annual event gave Johnny and John an opportunity to show off their golf skills while enjoying time with others from the business community in Decatur.

M&D Congratulates New Apprentice Class
Six M&D Mechanical Contractors employees enrolled in the apprenticeship program this fall:
- Jeremy Burns – Welding
- Chase Diaz – Welding
- Daniel Burgess – Welding
- Jon Dawson - Welding
- Gustavo Sanchez – Pipe Fitter
- Keith Fraze – Sheet Metal
These employees will go through a rigorous training program offered by the North Alabama Craft Training Foundation. M&D Mechanical congratulates these employees and will be supporting them as they go through the program.
M&D Gets Drenched for a Good Cause
M&D Mechanical recently participated in the ice bucket challenging, matching employee donations for a local community member. Employees in M&D Mechanical's fabrication shop were drenched first with the icy water before issuing a challenge to M&D's leadership team. SWeETy Camp 2014
Several area high school students visited M&D Mechanical Contractors this month as part of the 2014 SWeETy (Summer Welding and Electrical Technology) Camp. These students took a tour of the fabrication shops and several M&D employees provided demonstrations. M&D Mechanical was a sponsor of this year's SWeETy camp and has been active in the program for several years.
M&D Mechanical Wins Heat during Dragon Boat Race
M&D Mechanical sponsored a dragon boat team during the 2014 Dragon Boat Races benefiting the Decatur Morgan Hospital Foundation. M&D Mechanical employees, family, and friends met on the Saturday of the event and hosted a tailgate party, complete with a crawfish boil cooked by M&D Mechanical employee Eddie Evans. M&D Mechanical employee, Kandi Adams served as the team's drummer, cheering the race team on to a victory in one of two heats.
Two M&D Mechanical Employees Graduate from Apprentice Program
Two of M&D Mechanical employees recently complete the apprentice program offered by the North Alabama Craft Training Foundation. Danny Dean completed the sheet metal apprenticeship and Nathan Terry completed the pipe fitter program. M&D Mechanical congratulates both employees on their graduation. The apprentice program is part of M&D Mechanical's commitment to providing ongoing employee training.
This is the entire 2014 graduating class from the apprentice program. Nathan Terry is the fifth person from the left (black shirt) and Danny Dean is in the eleventh person from the left (orange shirt).
Several M&D Mechanical supervisors participated in a training session presented by FMI (Fails Management Institute). This session focused on managing productivity and the results of proper management of time, planning your work prior to implementation to increase productivity. This session was part of M&D Mechanical's ongoing employee training program.
